Do you feel physical independent? The ability to feel and be capable of facing the physical challenges life throws our way is the real reason behind our training or so it should be.
With time it’s common that our bodies have signs of wear and tear that comes for living and aging. Sometimes we don’t have symptoms and sometimes we do.
I have clients with osteoarthritis in their knees. Having no cartilage in the joint is not something we fix. Yes knee replacement can help a lot at some point. But before and after it will be about pain management and keeping the joint strong and functional to its optimum capability. (hip and glute strength, single leg balance exercise and knee flexion and extension. ) So that my clients can keep moving despite chronic pain and aches. So they can be as physical independent as they want to be.
Despite the chronic aches and pains we can still do things that make them feel capable and strong in their bodies. I often hear that this is my favourite move. It’s often exercise that gives them a moment when their knees are not the focus and they can feel strong without paying attention to the knee.
PAIN creates fear of moving and creates a vicious cycle because not moving will cause more pain.
Also despite having chronic symptoms you still have to walk in stairs, run errands, manage to travel etc. Things that my clients have to do regardless of how their knee is on that day.
Why am I preaching about this health thing and resilient bodies so much?
Well our bodies in 10 + years will be the body we set the foundation for now so why not start early and give your body and you the best chance of physical independence.
This I saw someone else post about and it really hit home for me. Most women will be living their last 10 years alone. Are you physically capable of that?
