With your best intentions and your motivation is on top you embark on improving your health.
You make an effort to be physically active and exercise more in order to improve your health. The expectation is that it will be somewhat hard and you will work up a sweat. You’ve had a proper workout.
You go for a while but at some point your body is not cooperating, a niggle has crept in and you have to pull back. Perhaps this is not the first time this situation has happened to you?
I have been there myself and I know the feeling of deflation when it feels like you went off track.
Perhaps you want to feel strong, feel that you are taking care of yourself, and you want to feel resilient.
To condition the body for harder work you often need to focus on improving mobility, strengthen and condition certain weaknesses and start slower than what we initially thought.
For many this feels like you are not good enough and that you are not doing work that matters. It’s stalling the process.
I would say this is what really matters.
It will have a big impact on your short and long term health goals and results.
It would be the same to fork out on a new shiny bathroom but without installing a moisture and vapour barrier. Not very sustainable not to have that foundation.
Since this work is often not fun at all I would encourage you to think about what this work will allow and enable you to do. And how will things be if you skip it?
Whatever you decide will be the right decision for you. You however have to be comfortable with the decision and have no regrets. If you feel you made the wrong / you are questioning the decision, then you get to try again.
It will be a useful situation to evaluate why you are questioning your decision. Retry and evaluate again.
If you decide you want to give it a go then I would suggest making the task at hand even smaller. It doesn’t matter that it’s not super motivating because it will take you 2 minutes.
It will be an investment into your health. A good investment is a long term investment.
Your health matters!
