People are becoming more and more health aware. I also see frustration in how people feel about how their body performs on a daily basis. To have a sore lower back or a knee that gets stiff and painful after long bots form sitting can be disheartening. I’m on a mission to help people get a more resilient body. That’s why I’m writing this post, to talk about my top 3 tips on how to achieve a more resilient body.
Before I go into detail I do want to say that within these 3 areas it will look different for everyone depending on their circumstances but you will get the idea. Also all 3 tips are equally important but can be distributed or approached differently to fit into someone’s life.
Don’t underestimate what daily movement can do for our health. I’m not jet talking about exercise or sport just jet, it will of course play a part in this. It will help with
What movement am I talking about? Walking is the number one activity that most people can fit in more throughout the day without having to block out too much time.
It can also be a matter of standing more when you can. Take regular desk breaks.
Because I’m a personal trainer you might think I’m biased to strength work. I’m not sure if I knew it wasn’t important I would not be doing it. However you don’t have to go to a gym to be able to build strength if you don’t want to of course. Training at home with your body weight is enough for a lot of people. However Ideally it should be addressing your weaker areas since we are talking about injury management and prevention.
Having a body that doesn’t allow you to be as active as you would like to be is improved with strength work.
Perhaps you have a weight loss goal but every time you try to do some exercise your knee or back flares up or stops you from doing certain movements. The good news is that you won’t have to do strength work every day, 2-3 days a week for 30-60 min can be enough.
Sleep ties everything together, you recover in your sleep from a stressful day and your exercise. Really what it is is stress management, exercise is a form of stress on the body. With enough recovery that stress helps build a stronger body. If you run off your feet and add tons of exercise on top of that without sleep you cause more stress. That combination will not do you any favours when wanting to have a healthier body.
I have said this before, even if you do 60 min of exercises a day but sit down for another 8h a day that is not enough movement for the body. That’s when standing and walking comes into play.
Those are my top 3 tips to a more resilient body. Hope this gave some insight and inspiration for you to move more.
