You want to prioritise your health, you want a 2.0 lifestyle where you feel healthy and do the habits that will create that for you. But something is not working still, consistency is lacking and you don’t have enough time and you deal with lack of motivation.
Thinking and being adamant that work, family and friends take up your time is a fact that just is. You make it a priority over the healthy habits that will get you your 2.0 lifestyle.
There can be many reasons. Sometimes what needs to be prioritised right now does not need to be prioritised always. (I will do a separate post about that actually, stay tuned )
The most common thing I hear is that it’s hard to stay or find the motivation.
Really what that is, is an emotion. We are looking for a certain emotion / feeling for us to do something.
You say it’s a lack of motivation but what that is, is a negative emotion you are feeling.
There is no rule as to what is a negative emotion. It’s anything that is not positive for you. Anxiety, stress, ambivalence e.g.
Now what your experience is with a certain emotion will determine whether you will do or not do a certain thing.
What you do with that emotion depends on your relationship with that emotion.
Your relationship with that feeling will get you to stop doing what you’re doing, hide from it or buffer for it.
Work is really busy at the minute and people depend on you. Family and friends need help and care.
These feel like valid reasons as to why it’s hard or impossible for you to be consistent and implement habits that you know you should do, knowing you will benefit from doing them, you know you will feel good doing them.
It feels better to imagine that all those important things are a priority so that you don’t have to feel a negative emotion. And it explains why it’s hard to be consistent.
But it is just a way to buffer from not being consistent with a habit that you want to implement.
Knowing this gives you a massive advantage to make a difference with th elack of motivation you sometimes feel and move the needle for your health. It’s always easier to deal with things when we know what we are dealing with.
Being comfortable with a negative emotion is key here. Sometimes we choose to focus on the negative rather than the positive. You can work on this and you will find that it’s much easier to find motivation.
Being comfortable with a negative emotion does not mean you should ignore it but rather to realise it for what it is and make a desicion to how to move forward in the direction you REALLY want.
Feeling and being healthy is possible, imagine how rewarding that will be it will be lifestyle 2.0.
