The time of the day could be a reason why you get bored of working out. If you could choose when would you prefer to train? If that is in the morning but you are leaving it to after work and evening. Due to lack of energy, motivation or work emergency, you are more likely to not get it done and also find it less fulfilling. For whatever reason, your planned sessions that are not happening can be quite demotivating. And potentially feel like a failure. Of course, life happens from time to time and that is fine we need to be flexible but its the long term affect this pattern will have on your motivation and fulfilment of achieving something.
I can’t stress enough how important variety is for preventing boredom and plateauing when working out.
This doesn’t mean that each session has to be different. Many of us get stuck doing the same running route and distance, same gym/online class, same machines in the gym, for days, weeks, years. This is when most people would get extremely bored and lose motivation.
To get improvement the body needs stimulation that change gives in order not to plateau and even regress. The solution is variety. Try a new class, take a different route on your run, a faster but shorter ore slower but longer run, once in a while. I did this mistake myself when I was new to triathlon. I did the same 90km out and back stretch for 2 years. It was simple in the beginning but boredom really got me in the end and I just dreaded that bike day. Started doing different routs and really discovered cycling all over again.
This is also important for motivation and for not becoming bored of working out. Depending on your goals and reasons you are exercising. The way you measure improvement will be different. Start taking notice of, average HR, distance covered, reps completed, weight lifted, can you reach your toes etc.
Don’t try and do personal records every session ore every week. But every 4-8 weeks look at where you are at and you might see small changes. Like you are 1cm closer to reaching your toes. But changes take time and most of us rush this proses. But to see that small change for the better is highly motivating and helps us going.
