Work is not everything. But let’s say you like what you do, you want to perform well, you are a high achiever, running your own business, perhaps have a lot of responsibilities. In most fields of work, stress is a factor. Even if you love what you do to much stress and pressure can make question why on earth you are doing what you do. Exercise and mental health have been talked about for a few years now. What I noticed so far is that people think it doesn’t apply to them because they don’t have deep depression ore any other more serious conditions.
Anything that brings your heart rate up and activates your muscles. Don’t have to be 60 min of high-intensity training to classify as physical activity or exercise. Walk, hike, jog, fast swimming, any manual labour where you use your muscles more than normal and feeling the heart rate increasing. Yoga, dance class, fencing, martial art, skiing, taking the dog for a long walk. I could continue. The intensity needed is very personal depending on current fitness level.
I will try and make this as relatable as possible. As many know is that exercise will increase endorphin levels. That results in a boost of confidence, can be referred to as a runners high. Ore that most of us never regret doing exercise in the end. Even when we really did not want to at the start. That boost will reduce stress. Not only during exercise but after as well. Stress is not only a feeling but a hormone that is released in the body that have a negative effect in the long run. So any relive we can get we should take.
Exercise increases our attention span, it helps us to focus and tolerate stress better. At work you will be more efficient with your time. You might spend less time dwelling on how to solve a problem or what the best way to tackle a situation might be. The bost in confident will have you worry less about most things. All of that will save you time and stress. It’s a win-win.
